Siting & Permitting

Promoting streamlined, predictable, and reasonable siting and permitting processes, with a goal of enabling the timely development of clean energy projects.

Our Siting & Permitting Priorities

RNW promotes streamlined, predictable, and reasonable siting and permitting processes to enable the timely development of clean energy infrastructure. We also form relationships with policymakers to promote siting policies that allow for environmentally responsible development.

Discussion Engagement

Engage in renewable energy and storage siting and permitting discussions at the state and local level to support environmentally responsible development.

Tribal Engagement

Advocate for improved engagement opportunities and consultation of Tribes in federal and state siting and permitting processes.

County Outreach

Work with counties across the region to develop ordinances that support local interests and allow timely development of clean energy infrastructure.

Regional Efforts

Across the region, RNW builds relationships with counties, state agencies, and coalitions to advance clean energy siting and permitting reforms. This work has allowed RNW to influence local ordinances, streamline permitting laws, and identify solutions to persistent siting barriers.

Outcomes

  1. County Ordinances: RNW secured support for thoughtful battery storage ordinances in Washington counties.
  2. Coalition Building: RNW helped launch the Southwest Idaho Energy and Property Alliance with Greenlight America, advancing renewable-friendly county ordinances.
  3. Agency & Rulemaking Participation: RNW joined Oregon and Washington’s rulemaking advisory committees, shaping recommendations on solar review and siting resources for local governments.
  4. Permitting Reform: RNW elevated permitting barriers to Oregon officials, resulting in two laws and two Executive Orders cutting red tape for renewables.
