Description:

The Pacific Marine Energy Center Newport South Energy Test Site (SETS) is PMEC's second testing facility, this one being developed for grid-connected marine renewable energy technologies. This site has no permanent generation installations. The site is located 5 nautical miles off the coast of Oregon between Newport and Walport. The testing site will be run by the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center, which is funded by US Dept. of Energy and is a partnership between Oregon State University and the University of Washington. SETS will serve as the utility-scale wave energy test facility for the US, and is expected to be available for device testing in 2016

The PMEC's first site, the Newport North Energy Test Site (NETS), can accommodate devices up to 100kW connected to the Ocean Sentinel, and larger devices if no grid emulation or connection is required.
