Washington Governor Inslee Demonstrates Additional Climate Leadership

Today, Governor Inslee announced a climate initiative that will help Washington reach its carbon emissions reduction goals and support a clean energy economy. Broadly speaking, the plan places a cap on carbon emissions in a way that generates revenue to fund education, transportation and emissions reductions programs. Renewable Northwest commends Governor Inslee for his leadership on climate and his determination to make renewable energy part of the solution.

“We look forward to working with Governor Inslee on energy policies that achieve our mutual vision of a clean energy future and a healthier Northwest,” commented Rachel Shimshak, executive director of Renewable Northwest.

Governor Inslee’s bipartisan Climate Legislative Executive Workgroup (CLEW)  found that  Washington’s Clean Energy Standard I-937, was the most effective, existing policy at reducing carbon. The Governor’s proposal will build on that success.
