Montana Views on Energy Key Findings

A recent bipartisan public opinion survey shows that three quarters of Montana voters are strongly supportive of increasing the state’s renewable energy standard to 25 percent by 2025. According to the survey, Montanans believe that clean energy is key to future economic growth and creates job.

Montana voters support renewable energy for several reasons, including the connection to job growth, health concerns and our dependency on foreign energy sources.

The survey finds that 86% of Montana voters support the development of wind and solar energy. Wind energy receives the greatest intensity of support among Montanans, with 62% of Montanans strongly in favor of increasing the amount of energy the state produces from its wind resource. When asked what energy Montanans would most like to discourage, a significant 45% named coal.

In Montana, strong support for renewable energy exists among voters of all ages, genders and social groups.
