Energy issues are important to daily life

As important as energy is to our economy and quality of life, it isn't surprising that energy issues are in the news on a daily basis these days. Dependence on foreign energy suppliers and on fossil fuels - which contribute to climate change - is not a strategy that is sustainable for our needs. Ultimately, a clean, secure, homegrown energy future will be needed to revitalize our economy and sustain us for the long-term.
We are lucky to have a generous endowment of solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable resources in our region. And the Northwest states have already exercised leadership on clean energy with state policies and programs that support investment in energy efficiency and new, renewable resources. Those investments have created the soul of the new economy in the region, making this a desirable place to manufacture, build and install new, renewable resources, and to develop businesses that support clean resources.
While we have come a long way in the past 16 years, we must continue to move forward and accelerate our actions to truly transform our electricity system away from fossil fuels and toward a clean energy future. I hope you will take some time to peruse our new website. Our hope is that it will put more information at your fingertips and give you the tools needed to assist us in this vital effort.
