Renewable Northwest Announces New Hire

Portland, Ore. (September 05, 2012) - Renewable Northwest , a leading regional non-profit advocacy group, today announced the hire of a new staff member.

Michael O'Brien joined Renewable Northwest as a Policy Associate, bringing a depth of experience to the organization's policy team. O'Brien will analyze renewable energy and siting policy as well as support Renewable Northwest's solar policy development in the Pacific Northwest.

O'Brien adds a vast amount of energy systems analysis experience to his new position.

His prior work in the House of Commons focused on advising Members of Parliament on issues pertaining to energy and climate policy.

"We are very pleased that Michael O'Brien has joined our policy team," said Rachel Shimshak, executive director at Renewable Northwest. "His expertise on energy issues and experience with public policy will further strengthen our efforts to advance the responsible development of renewable energy resources."

O'Brien previously worked in the Energy and Climate Change Committee and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, where he produced reports and briefings to make policy recommendations to legislators in the UK. He has published numerous papers on a variety of energy matters including renewable energy and low carbon economies. In addition, he is currently serving as an Expert Reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of an Assessment Report focusing on Energy Systems. O'Brien holds a PhD and a Masters of Science from the University of Birmingham as well as a Masters of Philosophy from the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge.
